Inspection Report: Laura Seigel Fall '12 Presentation
10:00 AMModel wearing Laura Seigel Fall '12 Collection |
Show: Laura Seigel Fall '12 Presentation
Location: Ace Hotel, NYC
Pieces To Covet: Draped Off-Shoulder Rock Print Dress, Long-sleeve Batik Maxi Dress, Cave Sweater and Silk Tesuji Shibori Tee
Overall: This
presentation during New York Fashion Week by far had the most captivating story on how the pieces of the
collection were constructed. Laura Seigel, is a young designer from Canada, that frequently
travels to India to design her collection. Laura works with local artisans from
Bolivia and India to give back to the community and providing them with financial
support, which would probably not be available otherwise. The artisans and
Laura use different design, dye and ancient craft-work techniques for different pieces in the Fall '12 collection
titled, Dreams Resurrected. The collection consisted of shades of black and grey in various tie-dye prints, chucky knits, raw silks and jersey fabrics in loose draped silhouettes with unfinished edges.
I hope many designers are quite considerate as Laura as to who and how their garments are made. I really commend her on thoughtfulness with translating different cultures techniques into her collection.
